"Before me there are all these decisions and choices that alters my path in an enumerable amount of ways, which leaves me in shock not choosing anything, standing in stagnant water."
Maybe it's specific to middle-age (though I am JUST at the door of that cavernous room, and haven't yet entered), but I find myself again at an entrance to a new stage of life. That's what I wanted to tell you about: that there will be so so so SO MANY of these beginnings in your life.
Life is short, it's true, but it's also so very. very. LONG.
You will have many beginnings, and endings and beginnings again. You will play out one particular
act in your play and then as the curtain falls, you turn to see a new audience
before you, and a new script thrust in your hand – curtain rising again. And it's WONDERFUL.
BUT, far too many choose to stay and doggedly act out that same script, in that same play. Over. and Over. and Over. Missing all of the color and costumes and passion and PATHOS! That, my friend, is the play of life's real tragedy.
It's that beginning, that entrance, that keeps things so exciting.
Or, to come another way... just because you pick one path right now doesn't mean all other paths are forever closed to you. Again I cannot emphasize enough how much TIME you actually have. This existence is fleeting, YES. You will run out, absolutely. But between now and then there is a whole LIFETIME. Do not waste a single moment, NO, but also do not make the mistake of thinking that the next voyage you embark upon will be the last chance for adventure!
Take that step; go and do and be and love and laugh and fuck and learn and fly and sing and play and just EXPERIENCE.
Viking philosopher, my kindred spirit!
